Willis, TX — In a heartwarming display of community support and gratitude, Dragon’s Breath Youth Sports recently held a BBQ plate fundraiser to honor and provide meals for first responders across Montgomery County. The event, which took place on Saturday, aimed to supply 150 BBQ plates to local police, fire, and EMT departments in Willis, Conroe, and New Waverly. The fundraiser not only met its goal but also strengthened the connection between the nonprofit sports organization and the first responders who tirelessly serve the region.
Dragon’s Breath Youth Sports, known for its commitment to fostering youth development through athletics, organized the event with the dual purpose of supporting the county’s heroes and raising funds for their own programs. The BBQ plates, which featured mouthwatering Texas BBQ and Catering’s signature one meat and two sides, were sold for $20 each. The funds raised went directly towards covering the cost of providing meals for first responders, who enjoyed brisket, smoked chicken, and an assortment of sides like potato salad, baked beans, and coleslaw.
“We wanted to show our appreciation for the men and women who keep our community safe,” said Wallace Jones, founder of Dragon’s Breath Youth Sports. “Our athletes learn about teamwork, commitment, and service, and what better way to demonstrate those values than by giving back to those who serve us every day?”
The idea for the BBQ fundraiser emerged from a desire to unite the community and support both the youth involved in the nonprofit’s programs and the county’s essential workers. The first responders from the fire, police, and EMT departments of Willis, Conroe, and New Waverly were invited to the event, and volunteers from Dragon’s Breath, including coaches, parents, and athletes, took part in preparing and delivering the meals.
“The support from Dragon’s Breath Youth Sports was truly appreciated,” said a representative from the Willis Fire Department. “It’s great to see a local organization like this showing its appreciation for what we do. The BBQ was fantastic, and the sense of community was even better.”
Dragon’s Breath Youth Sports has long been a cornerstone of youth athletic development in Montgomery County, providing opportunities for children to participate in soccer, basketball, and other sports. The funds raised from this BBQ event will go towards supporting the organization’s programs and future initiatives, which include offering financial assistance to local athletes and building a new facility for youth sports in the area.
“We’re always looking for ways to support our community, whether it’s through sports or events like this,” said Jones. “The first responders do so much for us, and we’re proud to give back in any way we can.”
The success of the BBQ fundraiser underscores the deep ties between Dragon’s Breath Youth Sports and the Montgomery County community. With plans for future events and ongoing youth programs, the organization continues to make a positive impact, fostering both athletic development and community service.
